Introduction
to Egg Rice Bowl (달걀덮밥)
In July
2023, a Korean egg rice recipe was featured in The New York
Times. The article introduced a simple and quick meal many Koreans enjoy when
they need a fast and satisfying dish.
Today,
I want to share a recipe slightly different from The New York
Times' version of egg rice yet equally simple and convenient. While
this dish takes a somewhat different approach, it is incredibly easy to prepare
at home in no time, making it a perfect go-to meal for everyone.
The
recipe comes from Ryu Soo-young, a well-known Korean actor and food
enthusiast. His "Egg Rice Bowl" (달걀덮밥) is a quick, delicious, and
effortless dish that anyone can enjoy.
This
is the third recipe in my posts, following “10,000-Won Dakbokkeumtang” and “Lifetime
Tteokbokki”. Moving forward, I plan to continue featuring more of Ryu

Egg Rice Bowl Recipe

🛒 Main Ingredients

2 eggs

1 onion

1 cup of water (190ml)
⚖️ Seasoning

2 pinches of salt

1 spoon of soy sauce

1 spoon of tuna extract

1/2 spoon of sugar
📖 Step-by-Step Cooking Instructions
① Thinly slice one onion. You can also use a slicer.
② Coat the pan with enough oil.
③ Add the sliced onion to the pan and stir-fry.
④ Sprinkle two pinches of salt over the onions while
stirring.
⑤ Pour 190ml of water into the pan.
⑥ Add one spoon of soy sauce, one spoon of tuna extract, and
1/2 spoon of sugar in order.
⑦ Lightly beat the eggs before adding them. Do not mix
the egg whites and yolks thoroughly.
⑧ Cook the eggs gently. Do not overcook them. (Refer to
the video for texture.)
⑨ Prepare a bowl of rice and place the cooked onions and
eggs on top.

Be sure to use Korean tuna extract. Using a different type of fish sauce
will alter the dish significantly.

from Chinese characters and is used in Korean.
